The faculty's diverse research and teaching interests provide students with a rich variety of courses and activities to choose from. The department has actively promoted Alaska Native courses and concerns at UAA. It has been a leader in promoting International Studies and Canadian Studies. Faculty are doing research and working to develop courses in the areas of circumpolar issues, Japanese and Pacific Rim issues, the writing of Winston Churchill, and others.
